The Account
The jungle had gone quiet.
Then the vines moved.
What emerged was less snake than confectionery problem: an enormous gummy serpent coiled beneath the canopy in bands of cherry red, blue raspberry, and sour lemon.
The struggle was sticky.
The machetes were unnecessary.
We brought the specimen home.
It barely fit on the table.
