The Account
The villagers had shuttered every window before sunset.
We continued uphill.
At the castle we found no host, only a silver tray holding black licorice beside a glass of something red.
We sampled the licorice.
We did not sample the drink.
By dawn we were halfway down the mountain.
The tray was gone when we looked back.
