The Sacred Gummy is a colorful collection of soft, fruit-flavored gummy bears discovered, according to Duff & Shaw field records, in a place where every sensible expedition had already turned around.

Each bear carries a small “A” on its belly and one of twelve bright fruit flavors. The exact meaning of the mark remains disputed. The flavor does not.

RECOVERED EXPEDITION REPORT

We found the first one beneath a carved stone idol.

Then another.

Then hundreds.

The local guide refused to touch them. Shaw called this prudence. Duff called it an opportunity.

We examined the markings, recorded the colors, and sampled one specimen from each group.

Cherry. Mango. Lime. Blue Raspberry. Twelve flavors in all.

By nightfall the notebook was full, the specimen bag was considerably lighter, and the guide had reconsidered his position.

Whatever ceremony these gummies once belonged to has been lost to history.

The snack survived.
